Inter-institutional co- ordination - National Commission for Schengen Auto-Evaluation

Inter-institutional coordination of issues related to accession to the Schengen Area is realised by the National Commission for Schengen Auto-Evaluation (National Commission), consultative body, without legal personality, set up by G.D. no. 882/05.07.2006.


The objective of National Commission is to co-ordinate the national policies and strategies in the field, implementation of assumed obligations in order to fulfil the necessary conditions for Romania’s accession to Schengen area.


The National Commission is made up of officials from all the institutions with responsibilities in the field.

Periodically, the National Commission informs the Government about the activities carried out and the taken measures.


Up to now, National Commission for Schengen Auto-Evaluation has adopted o series of decisions very important for the Romania’s accession to the Schengen Area related to:

- Declaration of readiness on starting the Schengen evaluation process;
- National Strategy for accession to Schengen Area;
- Integrated Training Conception in Schengen field for all the involved personnel;
- Indicative Plan and the proposed projects for Schengen Facility;
- Setting up  joint commissions for Schengen evaluation of international airports and ports and in the field of visas;
- Multi-Annual Indicative Plan 2007-2009 Schengen Facility for Romania, resulted after the negotiations with European Commission
