During 2007-2010, Romania organized auto-evaluation missions for the preparation of the structures involved in the Schengen evaluation process and for the implementation of the Schengen acquis.

Thus, during the above mentioned period, numerous auto-evaluation visits took place on all Schengen fields, in Bucharest as well as in the entire country, including in the border area.

All these visits were organized by the Schengen Directorate within MAI with the support of its own personnel and European experts, as well.

The scope of the visits was to evaluate the fulfillment of the Schengen standards and to offer to the evaluated structures useful information on the Schengen evaluation process.

The familiarization of the involved structures with this kind of activities as well as with the organization and coordination of the Schengen evaluation visits was another aim followed during the auto-evaluation visits.
